Fatigue

A Treatable Disease

Fatigue has reached epidemic proportions in our country. It often strikes the victim in the prime of life, and it robs the person of the joy of living. Fatigue affects every aspect of life. When you have no energy it makes it impossible to be the person you want and need to be. It becomes a viscous downhill spiral. You begin to lose hope, and you wonder if you’ll ever get your life back.

Unfortunately, most physicians have little to offer for this terrible and pervasive malady. At McMinn Clinic, we embrace fatigue patients because we know that we can help them. It may not be a quick fix, but detailed attention to the underlying causes of fatigue will usually rescue the patient from a lifetime of misery.

Fatigue has many friends. The symptoms most commonly associated with fatigue are insomnia, “brain fog,” weight gain, low libido, and aches and pains. Fortunately, treating the underlying causes of fatigue usually results in a resolution of many, if not all, of these conditions.

What causes fatigue? Nutritional deficiencies, toxins (especially heavy metals), poor sleep, infection, stress, allergies, gluten intolerance (and other foods), adrenal burn out, hormonal deficiencies (especially thyroid), anemia, neurotransmitter imbalance, sick building syndrome, trauma, and leaky gut can all contribute to fatigue. Usually it’s not one big thing, but many small contributing factors which ultimately result in the overall feeling of fatigue.

What is the treatment for fatigue? The best approach, which works for a vast majority of patients, is to look for and treat the underlying cause(s). Cover the fundamentals by promoting a restful restorative sleep, using targeted nutritional supplementation, treating hormone deficiencies, optimizing thyroid function, treating adrenal fatigue, balancing neurotransmitters, promoting detoxification, and treating occult infections such as systemic yeast. Advanced testing often leads to a successful evidence-based approach.

Im debating on come to see you and your team. I am swollen in my arms (elbow to wrist) and legs (knee to ankle). Also it seems that my stomach is always bloated. I have been to my Primary Physician (Dr. M Ricketts) and to a auto-immune specialist (Dr Traylor) and still have no answers. This has been going on for 8 months. I need answers before i get kicked out of the military. What would you suggest?

    Hi,
I am currently on 125mg of compounded T3 for my Hashi’s. Will the doctor prescribe this same amount if I switch to him? So far, I have not found a doctor close to me that is will ing to do that. They all say it’s way too high. However, I get extremely sick if I go lower.
